The New Orleans Pelicans have a season to forget. So far in the 2025-2026 campaign, the Pelicans have an 8-28 record, ranking last in the Western Conference. After receiving speculation in the off-season regarding the team’s potential and chances to be one of the best teams in the West, they have unfortunately proven everyone’s expectations wrong with a constant string of injuries. It seems like one more player has joined the fray as well.

The Pelicans' depleted lineup
Trey Murphy has stepped up as the Pelicans’ primary scorer. With key players like Zion Williamson, Jordan Poole, and Herb Jones in and out of the lineup, Murphy has taken advantage of the opportunity to showcase his potential as a future star in the league. He’s averaging 20.5 points, 6.1 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 1.6 steals in 35.4 minutes this season.
However, it seems he’ll be taking a back seat due to back soreness. He already missed his last game against the Portland Trailblazers on January 2nd, where they’d lost 122-109. He was a late addition to the injury list a few hours before the game, too.

Now, he’s listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the Miami Heat. With the New Orleans Pelicans set to miss Saddiq Bey and Herb Jones, with Derik Queen questionable, the team will have to rely on Jordan Poole and Zion Williamson to score the ball if they have any interest in winning.
