After a thorough search, the Tennessee Titans have found their new head coach. Late Monday night, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the Titans and Saleh are working to finalize a deal to make the 49ers defensive coordinator their new head coach.
Tennessee interviewed at least 15 candidates for the position, finishing up Saleh and Kansas City offensive coordinator Matt Nagy on Monday. Saleh was in Nashville to meet with the Titans and had a Tuesday meeting scheduled with the Cardinals regarding their head coaching vacancy.

Three of Tennessee's targets for head coach signed with other teams just before they were scheduled to meet with the Titans. This time, it was Tennessee that locked up its guy.
Saleh, 46, is a former New York Jets head coach who finished with a 20-36 record before being fired during the 2024 season. He returned to San Francisco in 2025, leading the 49ers to the NFC divisional round, despite being ravaged by injuries. Saleh was initially San Francisco's defensive coordinator from 2017-20 before he took over as head coach of the Jets.
Saleh began his coaching career in 2002 at Michigan State. His first NFL job came in 2005 with the Houston Texans as a defensive intern. After six seasons with Houston, Saleh joined the Seattle Seahawks as a defensive quality control coach. He moved to Jacksonville in 2014 and served as linebackers coach for three seasons.
Now, he's back in the AFC South.

Many believed Nagy was general manager Mike Borgonzi's top choice from their shared time in Kansas City. However, a report from ESPN indicates that ownership pushed the decision to Saleh.
