The Minnesota Timberwolves are doing pretty well in the West as of now, with a record of 24-13 and sixth in the conference. However, they may be shooting themselves in the foot with a possible chance to get better.

According to NBA insider Jake Fischer, the T-Wolves are not interested in trading for Atlanta Hawks four-time All-Star point guard Trae Young, even though Young has them as a preferred destination.

“I'm told that Young’s camp has suggested Minnesota and Brooklyn, from their side, as two attractive potential destinations. Yet I'm also told that neither the Timberwolves nor the Nets are in pursuit,” Fischer wrote.

However, Fischer then explains why the potential trade just doesn’t work for Minnesota.

“For all the leaguewide discussion about the Timberwolves' search for more playmaking, they would face similar issues in a theoretical Young trade as Milwaukee. How many key players would the Wolves have to sacrifice to match Young's salary? Answer: Too many,” Fischer noted.

So, while on paper Young would be a perfect fit for the Timberwolves, he would simply cost too much. This is regrettable, as a backcourt duo of Young and Anthony Edwards could be one of the scariest things the NBA has seen in a while.

Hopefully, the T-Wolves find a way to make this trade work, as adding Young to the roster would work wonders. If they can’t, then they'd better have some other targets to try and grab before the trade deadline.
