The Iowa Hawkeyes have done it again! Somehow, someway, just as the sun comes up in the east and sets in the west every single day, the Hawkeyes have found yet another tight end who appears to be the next in line of many great ones.
Due to injuries and being forced to play, DJ Vonnahme, a walk-on, was thrust into action, and he has blossomed into a budding star for the Iowa offense after his play in 2025. He quickly became a trusty and reliable target for quarterback Mark Gronowski, highlighted by the exclamation point he had in the Hawkeyes' ReliaQuest Bowl win.

On the year, Vonnahme, the 6-foot-4, 240-pound redshirt freshman from Carroll Kuemper High School and Breda, Iowa, had 29 catches for 434 yards and three touchdowns. He was Iowa's leader in receptions, yards, receiving touchdowns.
