The Carolina Panthers and the Los Angeles Rams have met just once before in the playoffs—on Jan. 10, 2004. Their second postseason matchup is set for Bank of America Stadium on Saturday—Jan. 10, 2025.
Yes, their second-ever playoff game against one another will come exactly 21 years after the first. Weird, right?

Oh, and that first one wasn't just any plain ol' playoff game.
That divisional round showdown has been immortalized in franchise lore for its deciding play, "X-Clown."
Carolina and, at the time, St. Louis entered overtime inside of Edward Jones Dome after a wild fourth quarter—which saw the Rams erase an 11-point deficit inside of the game's final three minutes. The deadlock moved into a second overtime—where, on the very first play of the period, wide receiver Steve Smith did this . . .
Smith's 69-yard touchdown gave the Panthers a 29-23 win and a push to the NFC championship round. They'd go on to defeat the Philadelphia Eagles, 14-3, to reach their first Super Bowl in franchise history.
