There's a 'possibility' this Rams star returns for the playoffs

The Los Angeles Rams have one game left before they head into the postseason, and they're hoping some of their injured stars return in time for whichever team they face in the Wild Card round.

One of those stars is offensive guard Kevin Dotson, who has been out since sustaining an ankle injury of the Rams' Week 16 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. While head coach Sean McVay already ruled Dotson out for Week 18, he told reporters Friday that his starting guard might return in the postseason.

"There's a possibility [he returns]," McVay said, "but just taking that a week at a time."

This would be huge news for the Rams, as they sorely missed Dotson in the Week 17 loss to the Atlanta Falcons. Quarterback Matthew Stafford was sacked three times in that game, which tied a season-high for the Rams' offensive line. Stafford's 7.32% sack rate per dropback was the second-highest on the year.

Ankle injuries are fickle, and a three-week recovery time for Dotson would be quick. This will likely be another wait-and-see week for Dotson regarding his potentially availability for the first round of the NFC playoffs.

McVay's optimism is a good sign, though. It means the team feels he's progressed well enough over the past few weeks to not rule out a return in the second week of January. But no one will know until they get closer to their next game.

Dotson isn't the only star battling back from injury. Receiver Davante Adams is still dealing with a hamstring injury and is questionable for Week 18. Left tackle Alaric Jackson, running back Kyren Williams and running back Blake Corum are also questionable for the game, while safety Quentin Lake hasn't been activated off injured reserve yet but did have his 21-day practice window opened this week.

The Rams aren't playing for anything more than playoff seeding in Week 18, so it makes sense they'd want to rest their injured players so they're healthy enough to contribute in the postseason.
