Earlier this week, Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman announced that he’ll be back on the sidelines in South Bend, spurring the NFL.
While we all knew that the New York Giants had the Irish leader as one of its top choices, the rumors were that they weren’t the only team that wanted to lure Freeman away from Notre Dame. According to The Athletic’s Diana Russini, three other organizations had him on their radar: Tennessee Titans, Cleveland Browns and partially the Pittsburgh Steelers.

You have to assume that the Browns defensive coordinator, Al Golden, who just recently left Notre Dame’s staff, put in more than a few good words about Freeman. As for the other teams, the Titans are going through a transitional period, having the No. 1 pick last season and will be picking from a high spot again in this year’s draft. The Steelers aren’t a team that takes a coach lightly, as they’ve had just three since 1969. If they went all in on Freeman, it would mean that they’d invest in him for the long-term.
Luckily for Notre Dame, none of these teams had a chance at steal away the rising star, but you have to believe that this will be an on-going event, as Freeman is viewed as one of the top coaches at any level.
