The Indianapolis Colts ran a fake punt on a first-and-10.

We repeat: The Colts faked a punt on first down.

What in the world?

And oh yeah, it was awesome.

The Colts had actually just run a fake punt. On fourth down, punter Rigoberto Sanchez lofted a pass to Mo Alie-Cox for a first down. The fake worked.

And then, instead of running an offensive play on first down, they left the punt team out there and ran the ball.

There was a flag on that second play, which is too bad, because it looked like it was going to work.

The Colts caught the Houston Texans entirely off guard. They didn't know what to do.

Maybe the Colts should just try a whole series next year with the punt team on the field. It'd certainly be unique.

Clearly, it was something the Colts felt would be fun to try in a game while they're already eliminated.

It'd take guts to try in a game that still really matters.

Either way, it was quite unique and very cool.
