Texas Longhorns baseball earns high preseason ranking

2 hours ago 1

Although the start of the college baseball season is still weeks away, the Texas Longhorns are already making headlines. On Monday, D1Baseball released its preseason Top 25 rankings and placed the Longhorns as No. 3. It is the second-highest ranking for the Longhorns in the 12-year history of D1Baseball's preseason poll.

The Longhorns' impressive ranking is partly due to the work they have done over the last few months. Their additions in the transfer portal include Aiden Robbins, Luke Dotson, Carson Tinney, Ashton Larson, Cal Higgins, and Hayden Leffew. They will also get some help from talented veterans such as Dylan Volantis.

While Texas is seen as one of the best teams in the country, it wasn't the only SEC program to make the cut. Other SEC programs included in the preseason poll were No. 2 LSU, No. 4 Mississippi State, No. 7 Arkansas, No. 9 Auburn, No. 13 Florida, No. 14 Tennessee, No. 15 Georgia, No. 18 Kentucky, No. 23 Vanderbilt, and No. 25 Texas A&M. That shows just how competitive conference play will be.

For Texas, the high praise comes after one of their best seasons in program history. They posted a 44-14 record during the 2025 campaign, their best record in 15 years. The Longhorns also made history, becoming the first team to claim the SEC regular-season title in its first campaign since the league's inaugural year in 1933.

As the Longhorns look to build on their success, they have a roster loaded with talented players. If they can meet expectations, they will be one of the hardest teams to play in the SEC. While they thrived in conference play last year with a 22-8 record, they have their sights set on a bigger goal: a national title.
