Texas A&M will reportedly host Washington transfer running back

1 week ago 2

The chaos of the transfer portal has begun, and Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko has already made contact with a long list of portal players, including sophomore Washington running back Adam Mohammed, who will reportedly visit the Aggies and Virginia. At the same time, the dates for both trips have yet to be determined.

Why is Elko looking to add another running back? Senior RB Le'Veon Moss will depart after four seasons, while incoming junior Rueben Owens is the next player in line to take the first-team snaps, but after an average finish to the 2025 season, adding one more experienced back to the depth chart is the smart move, especially if the Aggies land two offensive tackles from the portal to shore up the run game.

Among running backs not named Isaac Brown or Caleb Hawkins, Mohammed is one of the most reliable backs the portal has to offer and is coming off his best season yet. Sharing backfield snaps with Jonah Coleman, the sophomore ran for 523 yards and five touchdowns, averaging nearly five yards per carry. At the same time, Pro Football Focus gave him a prolific 88.7 run grade due to his efficiency on the ground whenever his name was called.

After making the College Football Playoff for the first time in program history, Mike Elko isn't taking the safe approach. He is looking to land eight to ten-star players at nearly every position, including running back, to contend for a CFP bid in 2026.
