Texas A&M will reportedly host UTSA transfer tight end this weekend

The transfer portal is officially open, and Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko has already made contact with several new additions, including UTSA transfer tight end Houston Thomas, who is a College Station native, and a personal family friend that graduated high school with Elko's son.

According to a source, Elko and his staff will host Thomas this weekend, and he likely won't be the only transfer player that will make an appearance in CSTAT.

This connection was obvious as soon as Thomas entered his name into the portal, and with Nate Boerkircher and Amari Niblack headed to the NFL Draft, combined with Theo Melin Öhrström entering the transfer portal late last week, potentially adding Houston Thomas to the 2026 roster is crucial to avoiding drop off ahead of Holmon Wiggins' first season as offensive coordinator.

On the field, Thomas would be the most established pass catching tight end since Jace Sternberger, already producing 918 yards and five touchdowns, while hauling in 34 receptions each of his last two seasons with the Roadrunners. While Nate Boerkircher was already an established blocker, Thomas would provide starting quarterback Marcel Reed another big target, while making an impact in the running game.

Filling out the tight end room early on is critical, knowing that adding star players in the trenches is the main priority, so securing Thomas early would put the Aggies in a good spot heading into next week.

Standing at 6'5" and nearly 250 pounds, Thomas earned above-average Pro Football Focus marks, including a 67.4 receiving grade and a 66.3 pass blocking grade.
