Texas A&M's defensive line room will look very different heading into the 2026 season. While head coach Mike Elko and new defensive coordinator Lyle Hemphill will look to add veteran players from the transfer portal, they will already have four of the top players at their positions, including Colorado safety Tawfiq Byard.
One of the more promising players on the 2025 roster has reportedly found a new home, as redshirt sophomore defensive end Solomon Williams committed to play for the Cal Golden Bears next season, and will likely contend for a starting spot or key rotational job. Standing at 6'1" and 250 pounds, Williams had a chance to earn a place in the rotation next season, but opted to seek other opportunities.

Williams is a pure pass-rusher who, despite appearing in just four games and playing a total of 35 snaps, recorded three pressures and earned an impressive 80.6 defense grade (PFF), while excelling in run defense (77.6) and pass rush (74.2). How Williams fits in Cal's defense will be interesting, given that new head coach Tosh Lupoi, who currently serves as Oregon's defensive coordinator and linebackers coach, will bring his own scheme to the program after the Ducks' playoff run.
Williams possesses the size and athleticism to play at defensive end or outside linebacker, but fits much better in a 4-2-5 scheme, where he can line up wide to utilize his pass-rush ability. Either way, watching his development will be interesting, as the four-star prospect has plenty left in the tank.
