With Texas A&M's season officially in the books, roster movement is already underway as players begin weighing their futures in College Station. Playing time and coaching turnover remain two of the biggest drivers behind portal decisions, and while explanations are rarely made public, departures are inevitable — especially in crowded quarterback rooms. Now, Marcel Reed’s primary backup is preparing to find a new home.
On Tuesday, Hayes Fawcett of On3Sports reported that redshirt freshman quarterback Miles O’Neill is expected to enter the transfer portal when it officially opens in the coming weeks.

O’Neill arrived in Aggieland as a highly touted four‑star prospect and the 2023 Gatorade Player of the Year in New Jersey, bringing with him a prototypical frame and big‑time arm talent. At 6‑foot‑5 and 225 pounds, he possesses the physical tools coaches covet and showed flashes of promise in limited action this season. His development allowed him to secure the No. 2 job behind Reed, and he was widely projected to hold that role again heading into 2026.
But with Marcel Reed returning for another season and several younger quarterbacks set to compete for the backup spot, O’Neill’s path to meaningful snaps grew increasingly narrow. For a player with his upside, the opportunity to compete for a starting job elsewhere became too appealing to pass up.
The tools are there — size, arm strength, and long‑term potential. What O’Neill needs now is a program willing to give him a legitimate shot at early playing time and a clearer runway to QB1 reps.
Below is his announcement.
Miles O'Neill Career Numbers at A&M
