Texas A&M (10-3) will begin SEC play on Saturday afternoon, set to host LSU (12-1) in Reed Arena after finishing nonconference play at 10-3, falling to Oklahoma State, UCF, and SMU. At the same time, the latter two losses could have been easily turned into victories if it weren't for late second-half mistakes.
After defeating Prairie View A&M 111-82, it was reported before the game that Indiana transfer forward Mackenzie Mgbako will miss the remainder of the season due to a broken foot, which, on its face, is a significant blow for a roster that is already made up of transfer players, and must stay healthy the rest of the season to have any realistic shot of making the postseason.

With Mgbako out of the lineup, first-year head coach Bucky McMillan will likely resort to playing "small ball" for the rest of the year, utilizing his deep guard rotation, but will need senior guard Pop Isaacs to play his best basketball. At the same time, fellow transfer guard Marcus Hill will also need to lead the charge and allow senior forward Rashaun Agee to thrive in the paint.
Ahead of the 3:00 p.m. tip-off, the first injury report revealed that, outside of Mgbako, who is listed as "out, " Marcus Hill is listed as "probable," giving him a 75% chance to play on Saturday. LSU forward Jalen Reed remains out, while Dedan Thomas is "doubtful" with a 25% chance to take the court.
