Texas A&M football retains key safety ahead of 2026 season

Texas A&M received some welcome stability this week amid the chaos of the transfer portal’s opening. While several Aggies have announced their intentions to explore new opportunities, one key defender has decided he’s staying put in Bryan‑College Station.

On Friday, Jaxson Callaway of On3Sports reported that starting safety Marcus Ratcliffe will return to Texas A&M for the 2026 season, opting not to declare for the NFL Draft. With two starters in the secondary preparing for the draft and Bryce Anderson entering the portal, Ratcliffe’s decision provides the Aggies with a much‑needed veteran anchor on the back end.

Ratcliffe arrived as part of head coach Mike Elko’s first transfer class and quickly earned a starting role after initially rotating early in the season. The former San Diego State standout brings prototypical size at 6‑foot‑2 and 210 pounds, along with strong instincts and reliable tackling—traits that project him as a late‑round pick or priority free agent at this stage.

Another season in College Station benefits both sides. Ratcliffe gains another year to elevate his draft stock, while Texas A&M retains a proven defender who understands the system and can help bridge the gap as new faces join the staff and roster.

Marcus Ratcliffe Career Numbers at A&M
