Tennessee Titans head coaching search: Team to interview Mike McCoy

5 days ago 2

Tennessee Titans general manager Mike Borgonzi met with the media on Tuesday and dropped a couple of nuggets, including a note on Will Levis and his future in Nashville.

While there is still a way to go until offseason workouts begin, Borgonzi reports that he has been in contact with Levis and that the young signal caller is healthy and ready to return to the organization. A Levis return may come as a surprise to many who believe he will be moved at some point during the offseason, but Borgonzi made it clear it is possible.

One of the biggest pieces of news is that interim head coach Mike McCoy will interview for the opening.

Although he would appear to be a long shot, McCoy does deserve a chance to interview for the position. The veteran coach did a very good job at developing the Titans once taking over for Brian Callahan, and Tennessee played some of its best football down the stretch.

Yes, there were still issues with clock management, penalties, and an overall conservative approach, but the team grew during his short tenure at the helm until the injuries and lack of depth got exposed. McCoy took over the Titans at their worst and turned them into a competitive football team by the end of the season, something that cannot be said of any part of the Callahan era.

McCoy may not have a legitimate shot at the head coaching job, but his impact once he takes over and gets the most out of the team should be appreciated by fans, not overlooked.
