Tennessee third-year lineman plans to transfer from Vols

The NCAA transfer portal opened Friday and will close Jan. 16. Tennessee junior defensive lineman Caleb Herring is expected to enter the transfer portal, according to On3.

The 6-foot-5, 245-pound defensive lineman appeared in 36 games for the Vols from 2023-25. He recorded 25 tackles, eight tackles for a loss, five sacks, two pass deflections and one forced fumble at Tennessee.

Herring had a season-high three tackles against Georgia on Sept. 13, 2025. He also had a season-high two sacks at Mississippi State during the 2025 campaign. Herring made his first career start at LEO against New Mexico State on Nov. 15, 2025.

The former Vol was named to the Fall SEC Academic Honor Roll from 2023-24.

Herring is from Riverdale High School in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. He was offered a scholarship by the Vols on Jan. 17, 2020.

Herring arrived at Tennessee in Dec. 2022 and participated in Orange Bowl practices and 2023 spring football practices as an early enrollee.
