We approach the first anniversary of Tanner McKee's best day as a Philadelphia Eagles quarterback. In Week 18 of the 2024 season, he made his first start of his NFL career. He made mincemeat of the New York Giants, crafting a 100.6 rating and tossing two touchdowns en route to a 20-13 win. The coaching staff didn't babysit him. He was asked to throw the ball 41 times. He completed 27 of those passes, suitable for a 65.9% completion percentage.
With Philadelphia's decision to rest its starters and their announcement that six are officially ruled out vs. the Washington Commanders, McKee is again taking the field as the Eagles' starter in another regular-season finale.

Tanner McKee's Week 18 start vs. the Commanders could place him on the radar of some other NFL teams.
Some of the Eagles' contingent have fantasized about the idea of McKee being the full-time starter. That will never happen, but this next game could serve as an audition for some of the QB-needy teams around the professional football landscape.
That's the nature of the beast. McKee has never publicly expressed his feelings about any of this or his desire to start somewhere else. We do, however, know that he's a competitor. We have yet to meet an NFL signal-caller with starting potential who admits he's happy with being a career backup.
Recently, McKee spoke to the media and expressed his excitement about the opportunity in front of him. We've seen him last season in two games. Trust us. This young man knows what he is doing.
"Super excited for the opportunity, but each week leading up to it, I've been preparing to play in case I do. So each week has been pretty similar. It's nice to get more reps in practice, but excited for the opportunity."
Our guess? McKee shines in his Week 18 appearance for the Eagles. Some Birds fans reignite the conversations about why he isn't the starter.

Don't worry if you're a die-hard Jalen Hurts fan. This is still his team, and that isn't changing. That said, the coming offseason could spark conversations about whether the Eagles' phone rings at all, and if Tanner McKee's name surfaces as part of potential trade discussions.
