Talan Carter, Jacksonville State DL, commits to Vanderbilt football as transfer

Talan Carter, a defensive lineman from Jacksonville State, became Vanderbilt football's first transfer portal commitment on defense during the 2026 window. Carter reposted a social media post reporting his commitment Jan. 5.

In 2025, the 6-1, 300-pounder appeared in 14 games, recording 57 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks. He was named Second Team All-Conference USA as a defensive tackle. Jacksonville State qualified for the Conference USA title game and won the Salute to Veterans Bowl.

Carter projects to help replace players such as Joshua Singh, Zaylin Wood and Mason Nelson, all of whom are out of eligibility. Fellow defensive linemen Yilanan Ouattara and Glenn Seabrooks are projected to return.

Vanderbilt has already landed several transfers on offense, including tight ends Maurice Veney and Jayvontay Conner as well as offensive lineman Beau Johnson.
