The NFL Postseason is quickly approaching – and a former UNC football star will be one of the premier names to watch.
Drake Maye is a driving factor behind the New England Patriots' first AFC East title in six seasons – and first playoff appearance in four. Maye leads the entire NFL with a 77.2 quarterback rating, is third with 31 passing touchdowns and fourth with 4,394 passing yards.

These are MVP-caliber numbers, but there's just one problem. Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford is arguably playing better football, leading the NFL with 4,707 passing yards and 46 passing touchdowns.
As football fans everywhere debate who should win MVP, NFL GOAT Tom Brady – a former Patriot and NFL MVP himself – gave his take.
“I think what Matthew Stafford’s done this season has been absolutely remarkable," Brady said. "46 touchdowns, for any quarterback, that’s a dream season. So, he’s been spectacular. Drake Maye, on the other side, has done some incredible things with Josh McDaniels in their first year together. Drake’s go a long career ahead, I’m sure he’s going to have many opportunities. You know, I would say Matthew Stafford.”
If we're looking at numbers alone, Stafford deserves the award. If we're looking at overall impact on a team, Maye should get MVP honors.
Maye took over for Jacoby Brissett as New England's starter several games into 2024, but is now his team's clear-cut starter and franchise quarterback.

Maye compiled 8,018 passing yards, 63 passing touchdowns, 2022 ACC Rookie and Player of the Year Honors during his three years as the Tar Heels' quarterback. Now in Year Two of what's shaping up to be a storied NFL career, Maye is turning heads across the league.
