Holly Holm attempted to win her first boxing world title in over a decade tonight, and came up short, losing to WBA lightweight champ Stephanie Han by technical decision.
The bout was stopped in the seventh round due to Han (12-0, 3 KO) suffering a cut on an accidental clash of heads. The cut maybe didn’t seem that bad, though that’s the doctor’s call, and the doctor made the decision to stop the fight, and some of it “not seeming that bad” may have just been quick and solid work by Han’s team once they had time to get to it with the fight stopped.

Holm, 44, drops to 34-3-3 (9 KO) in boxing. It was just her second fight since 2013, after which she dedicated her time to a mixed martial arts career that saw her have significant success in UFC.

What Stephanie Han said after the fight
“Things like this happen in boxing. I’m so happy, you have no idea. It’s not the way I wanted, but a win is a win. I want to thank you, Holly. You’re an absolute legend, and if you want a rematch, let’s do it in El Paso, let’s do it in Albuquerque. I would love to fight you again. I have nothing but respect for you. You’re an absolute legend, I’ve always looked up to you. Thank you.”

What Holly Holm said after the fight
“Not being able to finish it was the hardest part. She had a lot of volume and I was kind of waiting for those later rounds to kind of take over, and you can’t do that when things happen. I didn’t want it to end like that.”
On doing a rematch: “Absolutely. Nobody wants a fight to end like that. I don’t.”
Do you think Holly Holm should get a rematch with Stephanie Han and another crack at the WBA belt?
