According to court documents, Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs is facing charges of felony strangulation or suffocation and misdemeanor assault and battery. He had a hearing at Dedham District Court on Tuesday morning.

Diggs was summonsed for an incident that occurred on Dec. 2, according to court documents, and Tuesday’s date was for a motion hearing. Diggs is due back in court on Jan. 23 at 8:45 a.m. for an arraignment.

Per the Boston Globe, the two sides are “working on a monetary resolution to the incident.”

Diggs’ attorney, David E. Meier, motioned to impound the police report and related case documents, which the judge reportedly took under advisement.

The Patriots released a statement to MassLive voicing support for the wide receiver.

“The New England Patriots are aware of the accusations that have been made regarding Stefon Diggs,” the statement read. “Stefon has informed the organization that he categorically denies the allegations. We support Stefon. We will continue to gather information and will cooperate fully with the appropriate authorities and the NFL as necessary. Out of respect for all parties involved, and given that this is an ongoing legal matter, we will have no further comment at this time.”

Diggs, 32, is in the first season of a three-year deal he signed with the Patriots in March. New England has one regular season game remaining, Sunday’s finale against the Dolphins, and then the postseason.

It’s unknown how these allegations may impact Diggs’ playing status moving forward, and the NFL was tight-lipped in their statement on the situation.

“We are aware of the matter and have been in contact with the club,” the NFL said. “We have no further comment at this time.”
