One of the biggest offseason dominoes for Alabama's 2026 roster has now officially fallen, as starting quarterback Ty Simpson declared for the NFL draft on Wednesday morning.
A redshirt junior, Simpson had one season of eligibility remaining, but will instead forego that final year to enter the 2026 NFL draft where he currently projected as the No. 3 quarterback on the board in ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr.'s latest rankings.

The 2025 season was Simpson's fourth with the Crimson Tide, but his first as a starter. Across his 15 games played, Simpson completed 64.5% of passes for 3,567 yards and a 28:5 TD:INT ratio, while also leading the SEC in passes completed.
During his Alabama career, Simpson completed 63.9% of total passes for 3,948 yards and a 28:5 TD:INT ratio from 2022-25, while also rushing for 223 yards and five touchdowns on 112 attempts.
Following the draft decision of Simpson, it now means that a quarterback competition is in store for Alabama leading up to the 2026 season, with the Crimson Tide currently having four players on the roster at the position. Those four are now redshirt junior Austin Mack, redshirt freshman Keelon Russell, and a pair of incoming true freshmen, Jett Thomalla and Tayden Kaawa.
Here is a look at how social media reacted Wednesday to the news of Simpson declaring for the 2026 NFL draft.
