LSU gained a major commitment out of the transfer portal. After weeks of speculation, the Tigers closed on a commitment from former Arizona State quarterback Sam Leavitt on Monday.
Leavitt ranks as the transfer class's No. 1 quarterback and overall player, per On3's Industry Rankings. The Tigers were left without a scholarship passer at the end of the 2025 season. They now have two between Leavitt and Elon's Lander Clark, who committed on Sunday.

The move to LSU is the third of Leavitt's career. He signed with Michigan State as a three-star prospect in 2023 before transferring to Arizona State after one season. He led the Sun Devils to the College Football Playoff in 2024, boasting career numbers of 4,652 passing yards and 36 touchdowns.
While he'll be rehabbing a season-ending foot injury in the spring, Leavitt brings much-needed experience to the LSU offense. It's the splashy passer signing that the Tigers needed as they rebuild under Lane Kiffin.
How did social media react to LSU signing Sam Leavitt?
In the wake of Leavitt's decision, social media users commented on his fit with Kiffin and his offensive system as well as Kiffin's progress in recruiting at LSU a short time into his tenure.
Social media users connected the timing of Leavitt's decision to Kiffin's trip to Knoxville, TN to allegedly meet with the quarterback. Leavitt was on a visit at Tennessee.
LSU fans displayed a range of reactions to the news of Leavitt's transfer. Some compared where he stacked up against other options while others celebrated the signing.
One social media user joked about LSU's history with singing transfer quarterbacks from Arizona State. The Tigers did it once before with Jayden Daniels, who made the move to Baton Rouge after three seasons with the Sun Devils. He punctuated his two seasons at LSU by winning the Heisman Trophy.
