Sixers star big man Joel Embiid gives praise to rookie VJ Edgecombe

NEW YORK -- The Philadelphia 76ers have reaped the benefits of what rookie guard VJ Edgecombe has been able to do on the floor. The No. 3 overall pick is averaging 16.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 3.9 assists while now shooting 38.2% from deep on 5.9 attempts after his performance in a win over the New York Knicks on Saturday.

Edgecombe has found a way to succeed off the team's stars and he has been able to find open spots due to the gravity created by Tyrese Maxey and Joel Embiid. The two stars have gotten into their two-man action on the offensive end which has opened things up Edgecombe to play off that and produce good numbers.

"I mean, the way we play, I think everybody really has a chance in our offense," Embiid said after the win. "Everybody touches the ball. The ball moves. The ball doesn't stick. So, I think everybody understands their role, and you got two choices when you get the ball, make a quick decision or get someone else open."

Edgecombe has certainly found a way to make it work within the offense. He wants to be able to impact the game whether that's with his scoring or being able to make the right play with his passing.

On top of that, he is becoming a reliable 3-point shooter for Philadelphia after some questions about the shot while he was at Baylor.

"I think everybody has been doing a great job of that, moving the ball, but it's been great, obviously, what he adds," Embiid continued on Edgecombe. "I think it starts defensively, you know, what he adds, and then on offense. Coming out of college, I was told he was a bad shooter. He's been a great 3-point shooter since he got here."
