Rotherham win appeal to overturn Baptiste red card

Rotherham United defender Jamal Baptiste will be available to face Peterborough United on New Year's Day after his red card at Blackpool was overturned.

Baptiste was shown a straight red card for serious foul play after a sliding tackle on Zac Ashworth in the 58th minute of Rotherham's 4-0 defeat at Bloomfield Road on Monday, with the Millers already trailing 2-0.

The 22-year-old centre-back was facing a three-match ban but Rotherham's claim of wrongful dismissal and clearly excessive punishment has been successful.

Baptiste, who is on loan from Championship side Sheffield United, has made 14 League One appearances for relegation-threatened Rotherham this season, who are 22nd and two points adrift of safety.

He is now free to play against the Posh, Mansfield and Bradford - games he would have missed if the suspension was upheld.
