The San Francisco 49ers are preparing for a wild-card showdown with the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday at Lincoln Financial field that will end the season for the losing team.

While San Francisco is readying for the game, they're very thin at linebacker. Fred Warner, Nick Martin and Tatum Bethune are on injured reserve while Luke Gifford and Dee Winters are battling injuries.

With that the 49ers signed Kyzir White to their practice squad on Wednesday, and according to 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh, the new acquisition could suit up as soon as this weekend.

"He's got familiarity with the system," Saleh said. "He was with Gus [Bradley] over at the Chargers. I remember him coming. We were hoping he'd get to the fifth, and the Chargers took him in the fourth. One of those prototypical safeties who you could convert to a linebacker, and he's a had a hell of a career for himself. He’s ready to go. He knows our system. He can step in if needed to and give us minutes.”

White, 29, has plenty of experience, appearing in 93 games and starting 73 over his eight seasons since entering the league as a fourth-round pick of the Chargers out of West Virginia in 2018.

If Winters and Gifford can't go on Sunday, Eric Kendricks and Curtis Robinson will be the starting duo with Garret Wallow backing up. White and Jalen Graham could be elevated from the practice squad or signed to the active roster for the game as well.
