As the Philadelphia Eagles prepare for another massive game against the San Francisco 49ers in the Wild Card Round, former players around the league are giving their opinions on what this game really means, and not everyone thinks the Eagles are the clear favorites.
Former All-Pro cornerback and current NFL analyst Richard Sherman made it clear that he believes this game will be much more competitive than some may expect.

From his perspective, the 49ers view this matchup as an opportunity, not one that’s impossible, and the Eagles shouldn’t think they’ll walk away with an easy win.
“This ain't going to be the walk in the park the Philadelphia Eagles believe it's going to be,” Sherman said, per Yahoo. “And I think Kyle Shanahan knows that. I think the San Francisco 49ers know that. And I think a little bit of the Philadelphia Eagles fans know that because if the San Francisco 49ers wanted a matchup, this was the one.”
There’s history between the two, with playoff games and plenty of motivation on both sides.
For Philadelphia, it’s another test of whether it can rise to the moment again after winning the Super Bowl last year.

But Sherman didn’t stop there. He also turned his attention to the Eagles’ offense and the noise about offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo, who is on the hot seat like no other to fix the offense.
“The tape is the tape. Maybe it's not being executed the way you expected it to be executed, but right now it's hard to explain it any other way,” Sherman said. “This offense was not broken. It did not need to be fixed...”
“You can see the obvious differences in the scheme,” he continued. “The explosive runs aren't what they used to be. The explosive passes aren't what they used to be. It just looks really conservative.”
The Eagles still have talent, but the offensive performances obviously haven’t gone as planned, especially against good teams.
However, the 49ers’ defense has multiple injuries, which should help the Eagles.
Regardless, this should be a fun one, and hopefully, the Eagles do enough to come away with a tough win.
