Jan. 4—West Virginia made its first offensive addition in the transfer portal, signing a Power Four wide receiver.

Southern California wide receiver Prince Strachan reportedly has committed to the Mountaineers, according to numerous reports. Strachan is the third transfer for Rich Rodriguez and the second on Sunday.

Strachan didn't do much with the Trojans, playing just one season. All he had was one 25-yard catch against Missouri State. But Strachan was one of the better receivers in the portal. He's a 3-star and ranked as the 79th-best WR in the portal, according to 247Sports.

Prior to USC, Strachan played for two years at Boise State. He totaled 37 catches for 578 yards and three touchdowns. Strachan even had four catches for 40 yards in the quarterfinals of the College Football Playoff against Penn State.

Strachan's addition was greatly needed for the Mountaineers and could be the first of many pass catches added for Rodriguez. After multiple transfers, including leading receiver Cam Vaughn and graduations, WVU had no real production in the WR room. The only returning receivers for 2026 were Jaden Bray, if he plays, and slot receiver Jarod Bowie. Bowie isn't a true outside threat, though.

WVU has a lot of wide receivers coming in for the class of 2026, including two a little more experienced JUCO receivers, but the Mountaineers needed a veteran like Strachan. Strachan adds experience and size at 6-foot-5.

Strachan is the brother of Michael Strachan, who was selected in the seventh round of the NFL Draft by the Indianapolis Colts. He went to Charleston in West Virginia.
