Report: Nets' Michael Porter Jr. could be a trade target of Bucks

Brooklyn Nets forward Michael Porter Jr. is having the best season of his career during this campaign as the Nets' primary scoring option. Porter has been everything that Brooklyn could have asked for in terms of a shooter and scorer since acquiring him from the Denver Nuggets this past offseason and his name is heating up in trade rumors prior tot he deadline.

"It remains to be seen whether he can pull off anything significant, as Milwaukee is (by its own doing) limited in assets and options," The Athletic's Sam Amick wrote while discussing five teams around the league that could be making trades soon. In the instance, Amick cites the Milwaukee Bucks as one of the teams looking to upgrade their roster in some way, potentially by trading for Porter.

"The list of names under consideration is likely much longer than what is publicly known, but a few have emerged," Amick continued. "The Kings’ LaVine is a confirmed target, as is — according to ESPN — Sacramento’s Malik Monk and Portland’s Jerami Grant. League sources say Brooklyn’s Michael Porter Jr. is a name worth watching as well."

Porter, 27, could be on the verge of making the first All-Star appearance of his career as he's averaging 25.8 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game while shooting 49.6% from the field and 41.0% from three-point range. For a team like the Bucks, Porter could make sense given his ability to spread the floor with his shooting for someone like superstar forward Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Milwaukee may not have a choice, but to go after someone like Porter if they are going to convince Antetokounmpo to stay in town and not pursue opportunities elsewhere. Antetokounmpo has been rumored over the past couple of seasons to be evaluating whether his place long-term should be with the Bucks. The Nets have experienced great success with Porter as the leader of the offense, but if the Bucks make them an offer for the Missouri Tiger that they can't refuse, Porter's time in Brooklyn could be short-lived.
