Even though the summer transfer window of 2026 is still months away, Real Madrid’s first signing appears to be all sorted out already.
Indeed, Los Blancos are all set to sign Nico Paz from Como 1907, welcoming the La Fabrica graduate back to the club two years after his exit from Valdebebas.

Real Madrid seriously considered re-signing Nico last year
However, as it so happens, MARCA reports that Real Madrid seriously considered bringing Nico Paz back to the club in 2025 itself, coinciding with the arrival of Xabi Alonso as manager.
But the club opted for patience. The truth is Los Blancos have never lost sight of his progress. The move to Italy was always seen as a loan, disguised as a sale, with plans for the Argentine to return home in place.
And while it was considered last summer itself, Real Madrid opted not to pull the trigger. It was understood that his return would not guarantee enough minutes and that the player needed real continuity, not sporadic appearances.

At that point, the buy-back clause stood at €8 million, but, after careful consideration, it was decided to leave him with Como for another year.

And it is safe to say that the decision has worked out exceptionally for Nico, Como, and Real Madrid.
The 21-year-old playmaker has excelled in his second season in Italy with six goals and six assists in 16 matches, placing him among the top scorers in Serie A and as the competition’s leading assist provider.
Six times man of the match, the most in the league, and twice Serie A Young Player of the Month – Nico’s performances have been recognised with accolades.

At Como, Nico is no longer a prospect in development. He is the player around whom everything revolves. Real Madrid knew this, which is why the decision was taken for him to stay one more season and will now bring him back this year.
The final cost of the operation will be €9 million, a figure that is almost symbolic when compared with the market value he has reached: €65 million in just 18 months at the highest level.
Teams from Serie A and the Premier League would be willing to submit offers close to that valuation, but Real Madrid’s plan is clear and leaves no room for doubt.
Nico is not returning to be sold on, nor as a bargaining chip in future deals. He will return because the club believe he is ready to take on an important role in the revamp of their midfield unit.
