Rams named 'best case' landing spot for this 2026 QB prospect

The Los Angeles Rams' quarterback situation will be one to monitor (again) this offseason.

If Matthew Stafford doesn't retire, he's expected to remain with the team. But that's a big if, as Stafford will be 38 after the Super Bowl and coming off an offseason where he missed all of training camp with a back injury. While that ailment didn't prevent him from putting up MVP-caliber numbers, Stafford has mentioned his health as a big factor in his potential retirement plans.

The Rams don't have to decide on Stafford's successor yet, but they'll have a good chance to find their potential future franchise quarterback this offseason. They could keep one of their in-house guys like Jimmy Garoppolo or Stetson Bennet, sign someone in free agency, trade for a veteran or even draft a young quarterback.

While that choice remains to be seen, Bleacher Report's Alex Kay wrote that the Rams would be a "best-case scenario" landing spot for one the top quarterback prospects for 2026: Miami's Carson Beck.

The 23-year-old could be ready to compete for the starting job as early as his rookie season. He has a wealth of experience stemming from a decorated collegiate career that saw him spend five seasons at Georgia—including two as the starter—before finishing it out with a romp through the CFP bracket at Miami.

While his upside is limited compared to some of the other elite prospects in the class, Beck could be a strong game-manager for a Rams team that can find ways to win with a powerful running game and strong defense.

Given L.A.'s other options to replace Stafford right now include an aging and ineffective Jimmy Garoppolo and an unproven Stetson Bennett IV, Beck would have a strong case to see the field in Year 1.

If head coach Sean McVay can maximize Beck's strengths—which include good processing skills, mobility in the pocket and ability to dice up defenses when he gets into a rhythm—while minimizing his tendency to turn the ball over and lacking arm strength, the Rams could have a quarterback capable of keeping them in contention after Stafford hangs up his cleats.

Beck is an intriguing option for L.A. in the later rounds. Rather than use one of their two first-round picks on a quarterback who isn't Fernando Mendoza, the Rams could opt for a developmental prospect who could potentially shine in Sean McVay's system. If Stafford returned, Beck could even learn under Stafford before taking over in 2027.

As Kay alluded to, Beck has had a pretty productive college career at Georgia and Miami. He completed 69.8% of his passes for 11,239 yards, 82 touchdowns and 30 interceptions in 43 games over the past three years. Beck also led his conference in completion rate in 2025 (72.4%) and passing yards in 2023 (3,941).

Beck isn't an exciting prospect, but the 2026 class doesn't have any exciting names outside of Mendoza. The Rams don't need flashy, either, if they're focused on building sustained success inside their own system. Stafford is a great quarterback for anyone to learn from, and Beck would certainly benefit from a year of tutelage if Stafford stays another year.
