Quentin Lake designated to return from IR shortly after signing extension

The first day of 2026 has been a big one already for Quentin Lake. The Los Angeles Rams signed their star defensive back to a three-year extension on Thursday afternoon and less than an hour later, they made a second move involving Lake.

He’s been designated to return from injured reserve, a move Sean McVay indicated was coming this week. Lake has been on IR since injuring his elbow in the Week 11 win over the Seattle Seahawks, which required surgery and a lengthy rehab process.

McVay said on Wednesday that Lake likely won’t play in the finale against the Arizona Cardinals but he’s expected to be back for the start of the playoffs less than two weeks from now.

His presence on defense has been missed, even as Josh Wallace and others have done a good job filling in as the nickel. Lake has 61 tackles, one interception, a sack, two tackles for a loss and 10 passes defensed in just 10 games this season after playing nearly every snap on defense in a breakout 2024 campaign.

Assuming he plays in the postseason, the Rams defense will be significantly better with him back in the mix.
