In France since 2013, Marquinhos would like to obtain, as Thiago Silva did in his time, French nationality, although this should not change anything for PSG.
A legend at PSG, with whom he has played 504 matches and lifted the Champions League last May, Marquinhos (31) could soon obtain French nationality. This is what he announced to RTL on the occasion of the presentation of the 2025 RTL Sport trophy to PSG: "We are working on it, my wife has already applied! I am working on it to apply with [her] too."

Having arrived in France in 2013, the Brazilian center-back is married to Carol Cabrino, with whom he has had three children (a fourth is on the way), all born in France.
"I lived 18 years in Brazil, but 13 years already in France, so, normally, a big part of me is Parisian. My children were born here, my wife has also lived here a long time with me since my arrival," Marquinhos confided to RTL, before explaining that obtaining French nationality would be for him a way to "symbolize everything that France and Paris have brought and given me. For me, it would be a great pleasure to finally be a French Parisian."

In 2019, seven years after his transfer to PSG, his Brazilian compatriot Thiago Silva had obtained French nationality, which at the time allowed PSG to free up a non-EU player slot. This will not be the case with Marquinhos since he already holds a Portuguese passport (in addition to the Brazilian one) and is therefore not considered non-EU.

However, could becoming a French citizen have an impact on the life of Marquinhos, whose contract at PSG expires in 2028? "Why not continue living in Paris. But that requires thinking about many things... How many years will I stay here playing or also after my career? We'll see," he deflected.
The non-European players at PSG:
Lucas Beraldo (Brazil)
Lee Kang-in (South Korea)
Willian Pacho (Ecuador)
Gabriel Moscardo (Brazil): On loan to Braga
