Neither the Kansas City Chiefs nor Las Vegas Raiders are in playoff contention entering Week 18, but their showdown at Allegiant Stadium could be historic in its own way.
That's because rumors have been swirling around the NFL all season that legendary Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce could retire at the end of this season. Amid his engagement to global pop superstar Taylor Swift and his declining production – this will likely be his third consecutive season with less than 1,000 receiving yards after hitting the mark every year from 2016-2022, and he is set to have his least amount of catches since the 2017 season – there is plenty of folks pondering if 2025 will be his final year on the gridiron.

The talk has only heated up since the Chiefs were eliminated from postseason contention for the first time in a decade. However, Kelce has not given an official answer to what he expects to do one way or another. Last week, Kelce played in the team's final game of the season at Arrowhead Stadium to much fanfare. Now, we may see him suit up for the final time ever this weekend as the Chiefs travel to Las Vegas.
If Kelce does call it quits after this weekend's season finale, following in the footsteps of his brother Jason, who retired from the Eagles two years ago, he will be leaving quite the legacy behind him. He is currently in his 13th NFL season and has recorded 12,990 receiving yards and 82 touchdowns, helping lead his team to three Super Bowl victories. He is an 11-time Pro Bowler and seven-time All-Pro selection, and owns the record for most overall and most consecutive 1,000-yard receiving seasons as a tight end (7) and most single receiving yards by a tight end (1,416). He became just the fifth tight end to reach 10,000 receiving yards in 2022, and is currently third all-time for receiving yards by a tight end.
Kelce is undoubtedly one of the greatest NFL tight ends based on the statistics alone, and if he is on the verge of hanging up his cleats, he will be remembered for his impact on the sport. Make sure to tune in as the Chiefs and Raiders battle it out at 4:25 PM EST on Sunday.
