Penn State adding long-time Matt Campbell assistant as LB coach

1 week ago 2

Linebacker-U has its next linebackers coach. Penn State will be adding Cincinnati defensive coordinator Tyson Veidt to the coaching staff to fill the role of linebackers coach, according to a report from Bearcat Journal. It is also being reported that Dan Connor will remain on the staff as an assistant linebackers coach, according to Lions247.

Veidt is a coach very familiar with Penn State head coach Matt Campbell. Veidt was a part of Campbell's staff at Toledo in 2014 and 2015, filling the linebackers coach role with the Rockets. Veidt then made the move to Iowa State with Campbell when Campbell was hired to be the head coach of the Cyclones in 2016. Veidt was with Iowa State as an assistant head coach and linebackers coach from 2016 through 2013 before he accepted an opportunity to be a defensive coordinator at Cincinnati in 2024.

Penn State has been working to iron out its first staff under Campbell and has made moves on the defensive side this week. Penn State has officially announced the hiring of former Nittany Lion D'Anton Lynn as the new defensive coordinator. It has also been reported that UCLA defensive coordinator Ikaika Malloe will be taking over as the new defensive line coach for the Nittany Lions. This move adds another veteran assistant with defensive coordinator experience to focus his energy on Penn State's signature defensive position.

The last coaching role to fill on the coaching staff is the running backs coach position.
