For Green Bay Packers punter Daniel Whelan, the 2025 season started with a contract extension and ended with a punting bonanza at U.S. Bank Stadium that ensured he would break several team punting records.

Whelan signed his contract extension on Sept. 4. Exactly four months later, Whelan boomed eight punts in the regular season finale against the Minnesota Vikings, averaging 53.9 yards per punt and placing five inside the 20-yard line.

The season-ending performance helped Whelan shatter team records for average per punt and average net yards per punt.

Previously, the team record for gross yards per punt was 46.5, set by Corey Bojorquez in 2021. Whelan ended the 2025 season averaging 51.7 gross yards per punt, resetting the record by more than five yards. Despite kicking outdoors, Whelan led the NFL in yards per punt this season.

The team record for average net punting was 41.6, set by Justin Vogel in 2017. Whelan averaged 43.9, resetting the record by more than two yards. He finished fourth in net punting average in the NFL in 2025.

During Sunday's regular season finale, Whelan finished with 431 punting yards, the fifth most in a game in franchise history, and a net punting average of 53.3, which also set another team record. The previous record was 51.6 for a game with at least four punts.

Whelan was one of 11 punters with a punt of at least 70 yards this season, and his season long of 72 yards ranked sixth overall. Coming into Sunday's regular season finale, Whelan ranked second among punters in overall PFF grade.

While punting is rarely celebrated in pro football, the Packers will exit the 2025 season with one of the NFL's best punters.
