The Oklahoma Sooners have been busy in the transfer portal, but it's common knowledge that the portal giveth, and the portal taketh away. On Tuesday, OU lost a player who had been a starter for most of the season at a key position on offense.
Redshirt junior wide receiver Javonnie Gibson will be entering the transfer portal. Gibson played just one year in Norman, and has just one year of eligibility remaining going forward. The 6-foot-2, 211-pound wideout was impressive in spring ball, before an injury knocked him out of the lineup. Gibson didn't make his Oklahoma debut until the fifth game of the season, but he played in all nine games after being out for the first month.

Gibson didn't quite have the role Sooner Nation envisioned for him in the spring, but he was still a starting receiver on the outside for Oklahoma's run to the College Football Playoff. Gibson totaled 18 catches for 199 yards and a touchdown in 2025, and the Opelousas, Louisiana native was projected to be a big part of the OU passing game in 2026. However, the former Arkansas-Pine Bluff transfer will now look for his new home in the portal, as Oklahoma continues to re-make the receiver room.
Gibson joins a long line of wide receives that are headed out the door for the Sooners in the portal. That list includes Jayden Gibson (who has committed to play for South Carolina), Jakeb Snyder, Josiah Martin, KJ Daniels, Zion Kearney, and Ivan Carreon. Oklahoma will also be without seniors Deion Burks and Keontez Lewis next season, as both have exhausted their collegiate eligibility.
The Sooners have added two shiny new portal acquisitions at wideout in Virginia transfer Trell Harris and Texas transfer Parker Livingstone. Oklahoma is awaiting the stay-or-go-pro decision of leading target Isaiah Sategna III, and they'd love to retain Jer'Michael Carter as well. Young pieces like Jacob Jordan, Elijah Thomas, Manny Choice, and Zion Ragins would be good to have next year, as the Sooners have lost quite a bit of depth at the position.
