STILLWATER — College football’s leading passer is set to become a Cowboy via the transfer portal.
New Oklahoma State coach Eric Morris is bringing North Texas gunslinger Drew Mestemaker with him, the quarterback told ESPN's Pete Thamel on Saturday. PokesReport.com first reported Thursday that Mestemaker was joining the Cowboys.

The 6-foot-4, 211-pound Mestemaker threw for an FBS-leading 4,379 yards with 34 touchdowns and nine interceptions, leading the Mean Green to a 12-2 record in his redshirt freshman season.
He remained loyal to Morris and new OSU quarterbacks coach Sean Brophy, who recruited him out of Vandegrift High School in Austin, Texas, despite never starting a varsity game at quarterback.

Mestemaker arrived at North Texas as a walk-on for the 2024 season and made his first start in the bowl game to end the year. And he held onto the starting job through spring practice and fall camp.

The Cowboys saw all of their quarterbacks depart after Eric Morris was hired, with the last to leave, Hauss Hejny, announcing his decision to enter the transfer portal Jan. 1.
Morris has added three high school recruits to the group.
Brodie Vehrs from Chandler Arizona, had been committed to North Texas, but signed with the Cowboys last month. Luke Tepas from Barrington, Illinois, and Hunter Trusler of Dalhart, Texas, have committed to the Cowboys in recent weeks.
