The Oklahoma Sooners have seen a number of players announce their intentions to enter the NCAA transfer portal on New Year's Eve. The latest entry is defensive tackle Markus Strong. The portal doesn't officially open until January 2.
Strong was a late addition to the 2023 recruiting class, Brent Venables and Todd Bates second in Norman. A former three-star prospect, Strong saw a big jump in snaps in 2025. He was the fifth defensive tackle in the rotation and saw more playing time as starter Jayden Jackson battled injuries in the second half of the season.

This season, Strong recorded seven total tackles, two tackles for loss and a sack. In his career, he's notched 10 total tackles, four tackles for loss, and three sacks.
Jackson and former five-star defensive tackle David Stone are expected to start on the inside for the Sooners' defensive line. Trent Wilson, Nigel Smith II, Brian Harris, and James Carrington are expected to compete for snaps in the Sooners defensive tackle rotation and it's anticipated that OU will look to add a defensive tackle in the transfer portal.
