Oklahoma Sooners add Michigan linebacker via transfer portal

5 days ago 2

The Oklahoma Sooners made another splash in the transfer portal on Wednesday with the addition of former Michigan linebacker Cole Sullivan, according to a report from On3.

Sullivan spent two years with the Wolverines and was considering rejoining the team in Ann Arbor after Kyle Whittingham was hired to replace Sherrone Moore. Instead, Sullivan will join the Oklahoma Sooners to help retool the linebacker room after the departure of Kobie McKinzie via the portal and potential losses of Kip Lewis and Owen Heinecke.

Sullivan was a true sophomore in 2025 and played in 11 games for Michigan this season. He started the final three games of the year. In total, he recorded 44 tackles, five tackles for loss, two sacks, three interceptions, and a forced fumble for Michigan this season.

He joins a Sooners linebacker rotation that is still waiting on a decision from Kip Lewis. Lewis is weighing his NFL options vs. returning to the Sooners for one more year. Heinecke is waiting on his appeal to the NCAA for another year of eligibility after playing in three lacrosse games for Ohio State. The only other key contributor at linebacker set to return at this point is Sammy Omosigho.

Sullivan is a key domino for the Sooners' defensive pursuits in the portal and has an opportunity to earn a significant role for Brent Venables' defense.
