Ohio State football loses a running back to the transfer portal

1 week ago 2

There's been a lot of transfer portal news for Ohio State ever since it lost to Miami in the College Football Playoff in the Cotton Bowl. The portal opened up on January 1, and the news has been swift and furious, maybe moreso than any other season since the portal became a big part of the offseason.

One player who just entered the portal, who is a pretty significant hit, is running back James Peoples. Out of San Antonio, Peoples was thought to be first in line for the starting tailback spot after TreVeyon Henderson and Quinshon Judkins left for the NFL last season. And while Peoples did get some significant carries, it became apparent that younger guys like Bo Jackson and Isaiah West started to earn the trust of the coaching staff, with Jackson becoming the clear No. 1 and will likely head into 2026 as running back No. 1.

Peoples did show flashes of the potential that brought him to Columbus as the No. 7 back in the class of 2024, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings, but never quite took the baton as the best option in the backfield. Now, he will be looking to spend his final two years outside of Columbus.
