Ohio State adds transfer commitment from UTSA receiver Devin McCuin

Ohio State has received a commitment from former UTSA wide receiver Devin McCuin, who is set to join the Buckeyes for his final year of eligibility.

He was one of the most productive receivers in the American Conference last year with 65 receptions for 726 yards and eight touchdowns.

While the Buckeyes have never signed a scholarship receiver out of the transfer portal, they have found it more of a position of need this cycle.

There has been heavier attrition since wide receivers coach Brian Hartline was hired last month as South Florida’s head coach. Four receivers have hit the portal since the offseason window opened on Jan. 2, and Carnell Tate has declared for the NFL draft.

The addition of McCuin, who was also a third-team all-conference selection, provides the Buckeyes with a versatile receiver to complement returning starters Jeremiah Smith and Brandon Inniss.

McCuin was primarily lined up outside during his three seasons at UTSA, where he saw nearly 70% of his snaps, according to Pro Football Focus.

But the 6-foot, 195-pound receiver from Jacksonville, Texas, has experience in the slot, having logged 395 snaps inside for the Roadrunners.

He has 152 receptions for 1,696 yards and 16 touchdowns since 2023, adding significant experience to the mix.

McCuin would be the fourth portal pickup for the Buckeyes after Ohio tight end Mason Williams and UCF long snapper Dalton Riggs signed with the school on Jan. 6. UCF defensive tackle John Walker made a commitment earlier in the day as well.
