NY Jets Player Punished for Dangerous Hit on New England QB Drake Maye

Drake Maye might be in line for his first-ever MVP award in his second season in the NFL with the New England Patriots, but that doesn’t mean everyone is happy for him, particularly in New York.

In Maye’s Week 17 game against the New York Jets, where he embarrassed them by throwing for four touchdowns in the first half and sitting for a majority of the second, he was roughed up illegally by an adversary.

In the second quarter, Jets defender Jermaine Johnson rushed at Maye and used his forearm to knock Maye in the neck/head area before watching the sophomore quarterback collapse to the ground.

Although Maye was OK and continued to pile on the points against Johnson and the Jets, it could have caused an injury that ruined the Patriots’ entire season if things had gone differently.

The NFL handed down the punishment on Johnson on Saturday, fining him $17,389 for the reckless hit to the head and/or neck area of Maye.

Maye will look to wrap up the MVP conversation this Sunday in a game against the Miami Dolphins, while Johnson will attempt to keep his wallet safe in a final contest versus the Buffalo Bills.
