NFL world reacts to Falcons firing Raheem Morris and Terry Fontenot

Raheem Morris is out as the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons just hours after the team ended the season with a 19-17 win over the New Orleans Saints, capping off a four-game winning streak.

But that effort was just too little, too late after several mistakes that can at least partially be blamed on Morris sent what could have been a promising season for the Falcons off the rails. In addition to inconsistency, there were simply too many close games the team should have won but fell short.

Morris wasn't the only staff member eliminated by team owner Arthur Blank, either. The Falcons also fired general manager Terry Fontenot after five seasons in Atlanta. Blank put out a statement after firing Morris and Fontenot on Sunday night.

“I have great personal affinity for both Raheem and Terry and appreciate their hard work and dedication to the Falcons, but I believe we need new leadership in these roles moving forward,” said Blank. “The decision to move away from people who represent the organization so well and have a shared commitment to the values that are important to the organization is not an easy one, but the results on the field have not met our expectations or those of our fans and leadership. I wish Raheem and Terry the absolute best in their future pursuits.”
