NFL Network insider details Dolphins' 'full speed ahead' GM search plan

The Miami Dolphins' hunt for a new general manager will move "full speed ahead" Monday and head coach Mike McDaniel's status is still uncertain, according to NFL Network's Cameron Wolfe.

In an appearance on "The Insiders," Wolfe said that newly hired Troy Aikman will work with Dolphins legend and fellow Hall of Fame quarterback Dan Marino in the GM hunt, but it's executive Brandon Shore who "is expected to be the quarterback of this search."

Shore has served as senior vice president of football and business administration for the Dolphins since 2021 and has been with the organization since 2010. While his involvement in the search may sound alarms of status quo for Miami, Shore has reportedly been a vocal opponent of some of the team's recent mistakes.

"When Tua [Tagovailoa] signed his contract, he came in and said Mike McDaniel pounded the table for me," Sun-Sentinel reporter David Hyde said earlier this year on a podcast. "Well who was he having to argue against inside the organization? It wasn't Chris Grier ... he was all in on his quarterback. It was Brandon Shore."

What does this GM search party mean for McDaniel?

According to Wolfe, Dolphins owner Stephen Ross "really likes McDaniel" and "is looking for reasons to keep him rather than get rid of him," but it's too early to make the final decision.

But with Shore, an executive who has reportedly argued against decisions spurred forward by McDaniel, and Aikman, who ripped the coach's decisions in a December game, there might not be many on the search team in McDaniel's corner.
