New York Giants' Joe Schoen has no regrets over late-season wins: Culture comes first

Joe Schoen has zero regrets.

The New York Giants general manager made that clear Monday when asked if he wished his team had lost the final two games to secure the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NFL draft.

Back-to-back victories improved the Giants' record from 2-13 to 4-13, dropping them to the No. 5 selection and eliminating the chance to trade down for a massive haul from a quarterback-needy team.

"No," Schoen said firmly. "I always want to win when we go out there… We have a young group of players that need to learn how to win, and to go out and finish the way we did, we can carry that momentum into the offseason."

Rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart echoed the sentiment in his end-of-season media availability, emphasizing that winning, even in a lost season, builds culture and sets the standard for the future.

Many fans, however, saw it differently. Calls to tank flooded social media throughout December, and Schoen’s comments drew widespread mockery online, with supporters arguing the victories cost the franchise valuable draft capital in a critical rebuild.

The Giants, though, insist culture cannot be tanked.
