Nets rookie Egor Dëmin sets a team record with latest performance

Brooklyn Nets rookie Egor Dëmin tied a season high in scoring and set a team record on Monday, as their three-game win streak was snapped at the Barclays Center.

Dëmin finished with 23 points, three rebounds, three assists and one steal in a 120-107 loss against the Golden State Warriors. He converted 7-of-14 attempts from 3-point range and was a plus-eight in 32 minutes, 20 seconds of action on the court.

The eighth pick set the Nets' single-game rookie 3-point record, surpassing the previous mark of six by Bojan Bogdanović and Kerry Kittles. He is tied with Charlotte Hornets guard Kon Knueppel for the most 3s in a game by a rookie this season.

"I liked how aggressive he was," Nets coach Jordi Fernández said. "He shot 14 3s, made seven of them. This will come with time, but (he needs) better set-ups to find his teammates with those minutes he is going to get. I don't know how many potential assists he had, but three assists to three turnovers. I got to look at how many other shots he created, but I thought he could have been cleaner with that. Overall, great, aggressive. Every time he takes a shot, I think it is going in, and that is a good feeling."

Dëmin is averaging 9.8 points, 3.4 assists and 3.1 rebounds on 36.5% shooting from 3-point range in 28 appearances. He is second in 3-pointers among rookies (62) and is one of 10 first-year players with at least three 20-point games.

The 6-foot-8 Russian has responded in a significant way after Fernández called him out following a three-point performance on Dec. 12. He has scored in double figures five out of six games since then, averaging 16.2 points, three assists, 2.8 rebounds and one steal.

Dëmin has started the past 21 games for the Nets, showcasing his potential in spurts. The team has been mostly pleased with his showing this season and is eager to watch his continued growth on the court, as a member of the starting lineup.

"He has high expectations for himself," Fernández said. "I want that 3-point shooting percentage and aggressiveness to stay the same. I want better set-ups, paint touches, assists and more physicality on both ends, and he is going to try to do his best. That is the good thing about our young guys: They have high expectations for themselves, and they show up the next day and work."
