Nebraska football (7-5, 4-5) makes its second straight bowl appearance on New Year's Eve, taking on the Utah Utes (10-2, 7-2) in the SRS Distribution Las Vegas Bowl. This is Nebraska’s first-ever appearance in the Las Vegas Bowl and the 55th bowl game in school history. The Huskers are 27-27 all-time in the postseason.
Nebraska enters the matchup after finishing the regular season 7-5, which included the team dropping four of its last six games. Utah is 10-2 on the year, falling to the Big 12's top teams, Texas Tech and BYU. This is the fifth time in history that Nebraska and Utah face off, with the Huskers standing at 4-0 in the series.

Utah enters the game with one of the top offenses in the nation, ranking fifth in scoring offense, averaging just under 41 points per game and sixth in total offense, averaging just under 479 yards per game. It's rushing offense tallies just under 270 yards per game and 6.1 yards per carry.
Nebraska's rushing defense struggled against the run this season, surrendering just over 171 yards per game and 4.8 yards per carry. However, its rushing offense is putting up solid numbers, averaging just under 145 rushing yards per game and 4.2 yards per carry.
The game was scheduled to be the final game in head coach Kyle Whittingham's Utah career. He has since accepted the head-coach job at Michigan and has left the program early. Defensive coordinator Morgan Scalley is now Utah's head coach.
