The Eagles have started preparation for an intense wild-card matchup against the 49ers on Sunday, and they'll have their most intense defender back in the lineup. Eagles' defensive coordinator met the media on Tuesday and said he expects star linebacker Nakobe Dean to play against a talented and explosive San Francisco offense.
With Dean in the lineup, Philadelphia ranked 5th in the NFL in points allowed per game (19.1), trailing only Seattle (17.2), Houston (17.4), Denver (18.3), and New England (18.8). Including playoffs, the Eagles rank 1st overall in scoringdefense (18.6) since hiring Vic Fangio during the 2024 offseason.
Dean was ruled out of the Week 16 29-18 win over the Washington Commanders with a hamstring injury and missed the final two games of the regular season. Dean was sidelined for the first four games of the season as he recovered from a torn patellar tendon. Once he returned to the lineup, he helped stabilize a rush defense that had been inconsistent early on, spurring the Eagles' run of dominance.
